In Car Wifi
There is nothing more annoying that a spotty Internet connection while you're trying to get some work done or keep the kids entertained. With a growing remote work force, it's more important than ever to have Internet access wherever you may be.
Fortunately, there are several relatively inexpensive ways to turn your car into a mobile work station. In this article, we' explore various ways on how to get in car wifi, including options like Uconnect and using your phone as a hotspot.
Uconnect for Dodge and Chrysler Vehicles
If you own a Dodge or Chrysler vehicle, you might be in luck! Many models offer built-in WiFi through Uconnect. I personally use this feature to work on the go in my beloved 2018 Dodge Charger. Uconnect not only provides a reliable truck wifi router but also offers a host of other features like navigation, music streaming, and more.
The only downside, however, is that there is a weird glitch that freezes the entire screen whenever I connect an iPod via bluetooth. I can stream music just fine, but if a call comes in, the display becomes unresponsive and remains on even when the car cuts off.
If your Uconnect won't turn off head into the trunk, or wherever the battery is located. Find the negative battery cable and use a 10mm wrench or socket to disconnect it from the terminal.
Wait a few seconds, then reconnect the battery terminal. From there, your screen should've returned to normal. Just don't forget to fix your clock back!
Using Your Phone as a Hotspot
Many mobile plans these days include the option to use your phone as a hotspot. This is another convenient way on how to get wifi in my car. Simply go to your phone's settings, enable the hotspot feature, and connect your car's devices to it.
Using a Dedicated Mobile Hotspot
This option is last on my list since its the least practical. Lugging around an extra device that essentially does the same thing your phone does is almost pointless. The only reason to buy one of these is if your current phone does have a hotspot.
Most of these hotspots also carry unrealistic data counts, unlike Uconnect which is unlimited.
How to Get WiFi in Your Car for Free
If you're wondering how to get wifi in your car for free, the only real option is to piggyback on your cell carrier via a hotspot. While this isn't truly "free" since you're already paying for the mobile plan, it won't incur any additional charges if hotspot usage is included in your plan.
Benefits of In Car Wifi
Other than convenience, in car wifi connections are more secure than those you encounter in restuarants and parks. This is largely due to most mobile hotspot providers requiring a password for set up.
With a strong password, most won't be able to guess your password and snoop into your network traffic. Plus, if you car is in motion it probably will only appear visible to other devices for a brief moment, rendering a breach nearly impossible.
Get Connected Today!
Hotspots are perfect for digital entrepreneurs who are constantly connected to their CRM or project management tool. The best option is to use a service like UConnect or whatever service available to your vehicle.
If that's not possible, use your phone as a hotspot for the devices in your car or truck. Finally, if all else fails pick up one of those semi-useless dedicated mobile Wifi hotspots.
