A Nightmare Before Christmas Trivia

jack skelling next to christmas tree

The Nightmare Before Christmas was one of the scariest movies of my childhood. I had many horrible dreams about the various oddball characters that appeared throughout the film.

I only appreciated the film's brilliance as an adult. Instead of relying on traditional Christmas tropes, the movie used a wide array of spooky characters and themes.

Sally is a toxicologist

Jack's love interest is a skilled toxicologist. This is evident throughout the movie as she often creates potions that knock her abusive father figure out cold.

A sequel was planned in 2001

Disney had planned on making a CGI sequel in 2001, but were convinced to disband the effort by Tim Burton. Sequels seldom ever work out well when such a large amount of time elapses, so its probably best this way.

Sally's father is credited only as "Evil Scientist"

In the credits, Sally's father figure/captor is only addressed as the Evil Scientist, never by name. It's a fitting title given how much of a jerk he was.

Disney wanted to make Jack more appealing, but Tim Burton refused

Disney wanted to give Jack more friendly, welcoming eyes instead the black soul-free holes he has. But, Tim Burton refused and Disney eventually backed down.

The Mayor's design was an insult to real life politicians

The Mayor of Halloween Town was a weird, portly man with a rotating head that had two faces. This is a dig at real life politicians who are often two-faced...or three-faced during election seasons.

Jack's doorbell is similar to another contraption found in a similarly spooky series

Jack's doorbell is similar to the one found at the Addams Family residence in the original TV series.
