Secret Santa Rules

#1 Stick to the budget!

Although everyone in the secret santa crew may love each equally, their bank accounts may not be equal in weight. As such, it's important to adhere to a sensible budget that won't pressure anyone to go beyond their means.

A budget also forces you to get creative and not rely on simply grabbing a heft gift card from the closest department store. Try to buy something useful or of some sentimental value to the person you draw.

#2 Buy your gifts at least a day or two before the exchange

Last minute gifts typically suck. As such you should try and get your gift as early as possible. Of course, if you are waiting on pay day, continue to wait.

Don't let the pressure of gift buying cause you to miss paying a bill. If you are ordering from a place like Amazon, try to factor in the possibility of inclimate weather delaying your gift's arrival.

#3 Don't try and switch the person you draw

If you absolutely hate a person, don't participate in a Secret Santa gift exchange where you could possibly have to purchase them something.

If you draw a person you only slightly dislike, buy the gift anyway. Who knows, the gift may bring you two closer together.
